Safety in the forge
Every course starts with a compulsory safety briefing. The instructor explains and demonstrates each task first. Participants work under supervision and follow the instructor's directions immediately.
If the instructor says ‘Stop! Put everything down,’ set your work down safely at once. The instructor may change or stop an activity when safety, materials or the group situation requires it.
Fire, finishing and the workshop
We use coal fires and propane forges. You learn to manage the fire under supervision. Hot pieces are placed in designated areas and must cool completely before you take them home.
Pieces are brushed and, where the programme includes it, protected with wax after cooling. The instructor decides when finishing and taking a piece home is safe.
Courses take place in the inspected, working workshop of Kunst- en Siersmederij Rein Tupker & Zn. Fire extinguishers, first aid supplies, eye wash and multiple emergency exits are available.
